Public asked to share views on development of public areas and green space
Members of the public, local residents and community groups are being encouraged to attend a local information and engagement event to find out more about the new Stirling Care Village and share their views on how they would like to see the public areas and green space developed.
The drop-in event, which takes place from 12.30pm – 4.00pm on Thursday 8th February 2018 in the lecture theatre at Stirling Community Hospital.
As well as finding out more about how the construction of the Care Village is progressing, the event will also an opportunity for community groups, voluntary organisations, members of the public and staff to explore how indoor public areas and green space across the site could be used as a resource for the local community.
Project leads are particularly keen to hear suggestions on how landscaping, reception and activity areas, as well as amenities like the planned new café, hairdressing salon and other retail outlets, could be used not only by patients and visitors, but also by the wider local community. This will help develop a vision, plan and business case for the public spaces in the Care Village when it opens in late 2018.
Shiona Strachan, Chief Officer for Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Significant progress has made since the last information day and we now want to finalise plans for how the green space, public and retail areas in the new Care Village will be developed. This is important as we very much see these new facilities as not just improving services for local patients and service users, but also providing valuable amenities, job and training opportunities for the wider local community.
“I’d therefore encourage local people, community groups and residents to come along and share their views and suggestions.”
Additional Information
The new Stirling Care Village is a £35m development between Stirling Council, NHS Forth Valley, the Clackmannanshire and Stirling Integration Joint Board and the Scottish Ambulance Service. It will bring together a wide range of health and social care services in a number of purpose-built new facilities. These include:
- An inpatient facility which will provide short-term care, assessment or rehabilitation for older people who require additional support following an illness or operation to help them recover, regain their independence and, in the majority of cases, return to their own homes.
- A purpose built centre which will provide more modern, spacious accommodation for existing minor injuries services, X-ray facilities and Primary Care out-of-hours services along with a number of local GP practices which will relocate to the new facility.
- An ambulance station and workshop which will replace the existing ambulance station in the Riverside area of the city.
Forth Valley College is also exploring opportunities to offer local young people who are considering a career in the health and care sector, a range of training and volunteering opportunities within the new Care Village. The majority of facilities are expected to be completed by the end of 2018 with the ambulance station and final site works completed by autumn 2019.
